Green minute

Is snow still being made?

How long snowmaking is permitted varies from region to region. Snowmaking on the Brauneck is actually permitted from mid-November to the end of March.

In practice, however, snow is usually no longer produced from the middle/end of February.

Snowmaking on the pistes is only permitted in the "real" winter - when temperatures are below freezing. This is usually no longer the case in March.

Therefore, snowmaking ends at the end of February at the latest. Also so that the snow can melt again in spring - as nature intended.

The rule is: support natural snow, don't force it.

Incidentally, there is nothing artificial about machine-produced snow: like natural snow, it consists only of water and cold air.
